Robert Derek Channon, born on June 15, 1944, is a prominent British engineer recognized for creating an insulin pump for diabetics and miniaturized helicopters for the UK military. As a diabetic, he invented a three-ounce insulin pump to eliminate regular injections. The National Medical Research Foundation funded his development, and in 1980, they tested his invention at Guy's Hospital with a trial focusing on reducing blindness in diabetic patients. In July 2024, he received an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from UWE Bristol for his contributions to Type 1 diabetes management.
