Robert Cort Haddon is an Australian solid-state physicist born on March 12, 1943, in Sheffield. He studied at the University of Melbourne and earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Penn State University in 1971. Haddon worked at the Australian National University and Bell Laboratories before becoming a professor at the University of Kentucky in 1997. He later directed the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering at UC Riverside. Haddon co-founded companies producing carbon nanotubes and discovered superconductivity in potassium-doped fullerenes, receiving the 2008 James C. McGroddy Prize.
