He served as the Chairman of the Finnish Olympic Committee from November 2012 to 2016 and was the Chairman of Valo from 2014 to 2016. His career included leadership roles at Veikkaus and the Finnish Sports Museum, along with being the CEO of Finnish Sports Television. Nieminen, a Master's degree holder in philosophy, was also active in sprinting during his youth, achieving national relay championship titles.
