Rifaat Sallam was an Egyptian poet born on November 16, 1951, and is considered one of the most prominent poets of the 1970s generation in Egypt. He contributed to the publication of the magazine 'Ida'at 77' with some of his peers and later issued his own magazine, 'Kitabat.' His first poetry collection, 'Warda al-Fawda al-Jamilah,' was published in 1987. He also translated several works, including Baudelaire's complete works, and won the Kavafis International Poetry Award in 1993. He passed away on December 6, 2020.
