Richard Wilbur (March 1, 1921 – October 14, 2017) was an American poet and literary translator, recognized as one of the foremost poets of his time. His poetry was primarily traditional in form, characterized by a blend of talent, charm, and elegance. He served as Poet Laureate and was appointed the second Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1987. Wilbur won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry twice, in 1957 and 1989, solidifying his reputation in the literary world.
