Richard Brett (1939–2014) was a pioneering British stage engineer, often regarded as the first theatre consultant. Born in Croydon, he contributed significantly to the introduction of colour television at the BBC before moving to the National Theatre in 1967. He founded Technical Planning in 1985, now known as Theatreplan. His innovative designs included systems at various theatres and he served as chairman for key theatre associations. In 2023, he was honored in the Engineering Icons Tube Map. Brett passed away in 2014, leaving a legacy in theatre engineering.
