Captain Richard Been Stannard was a British sailor and an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve. He served during the Second World War and was awarded the Victoria Cross, which is the highest military honor for bravery in battle that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Stannard's heroic actions made him the first recipient of the VC from the RNR during this conflict.
