Rein Munniksma, born on June 2, 1950, in Koudum, is a Dutch politician representing the PvdA. He studied political science at the University of Amsterdam after attending HBS in Drachten. Munniksma began his political career in 1978 as an alderman for the municipality of Opsterlân and became mayor of Anloo in 1987. Following a merger of municipalities in 1998, he served as mayor of Aa en Hunze. He became deputy for the province of Drenthe in April 2007 and later held various mayoral positions, including acting mayor of Midden-Groningen from January 1, 2018.
