Raymond H. Lapin was an influential American mortgage banking executive, widely recognized as the father of the secondary mortgage market. He served as the first president of Ginnie Mae and Fannie Mae during the late 1960s under President Lyndon Johnson. Lapin founded Bankers Mortgage Co. in 1954 and later sold it to Transamerica Corporation. His political connections enabled him to compile a list of political opponents during Nixon's administration. Lapin passed away in 1986 due to heart disease complications.
