Myers earned degrees from prestigious institutions, including a B.Sc. in physics from Rice University and advanced degrees from Dalhousie University. He joined Dalhousie's faculty as the first Killam Chair in Ocean Studies. Myers collected extensive data on shark populations and was recognized in Fortune as a leading innovator in marine conservation before his untimely death in 2007.
