Ralph Asher Alpher (1921-2007) was an American physicist who made significant contributions to physical cosmology. He is best known for his work on the Big Bang theory, where he wrote his doctoral thesis in 1948 discussing the formation of primordial particles and light elements like hydrogen and helium. His predictions included the existence of cosmic microwave background radiation, later confirmed by observations in 1964, which brought recognition to his work. Alpher served as a professor at Union College and directed the Dudley Observatory in New York.
