Raleigh Kirby Godsey, known as R. Kirby Godsey, is an American educator born on April 2, 1936. He served as the seventeenth president of Mercer University from July 1, 1979, to June 30, 2006, a tenure of 27 years, making him the longest-serving president in the university's history. After stepping down as president, Godsey transitioned to the roles of university chancellor, professor, and special advisor to his successor, William D. Underwood.
