Rakesh Sood, born on February 5, 1953, is a former Indian diplomat, columnist, and writer. He served as India's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Nepal, and France and held various significant positions in diplomatic missions including Deputy Chief of Mission in Washington DC. In 2013, he was appointed as the special envoy for disarmament and non-proliferation by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Sood joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1976 after studying physics and has been involved in international security and disarmament affairs.
