He worked on banana plantations in Honduras in the late 1940s before returning to El Salvador to focus on teaching and journalism. He founded Liceo Tecleño in 1958 and gained poetic recognition in the 1959 Juegos florales de Sonsonate. He won several prestigious poetry contests, including the II Bienal Latinoamericana de poesía in Panama in 1972, highlighting his contributions to Salvadoran literature.
