Rafaël D'Haene (born September 29, 1943) is a Belgian composer who studied at the Brussels Conservatory and under Henri Dutilleux in Paris. He has taught since 1970 and led the Dutch-speaking department of the Brussels Conservatory for many years. D'Haene has received various national and international awards, notably the Lili Boulanger Prize in Paris and the first prize in Alicante for his cantata 'Ariadne's Lament' based on Friedrich Nietzsche's words. His notable works include the vocal cycle 'Sonets to Orpheus' and the 'Violin Concerto' showcasing Romantic echoes.
