Queen Alia of Jordan, born Alia Bahaa eddin Toukan on December 25, 1948, was the third wife of King Hussein of Jordan. She was born in Cairo to a Palestinian family and received her education in various cities including London and New York, studying political science and social psychology. Fluent in English and Italian, she worked in public relations for Royal Jordanian Airlines. Queen Alia had two children and was awarded the Hashemite Order of the Quietest. Tragically, she died in a helicopter crash on February 9, 1977, while on a trip to southern Jordan.
