Pavel Pavlovich Rumyantsev was a Soviet biologist and cytologist born on August 31, 1927, in Leningrad, USSR. He served as the director of the Institute of Cytology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR from 1983 until his death on April 11, 1988. He was a specialist in cytology and histology and became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1987.
