Ihtisham Hussain was an Indian writer, Marxist critic, and novelist, born on April 21, 1922, in Mahul, Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his M.A. in 1936 from Allahabad and became a lecturer in Urdu at Lucknow University. Later, he served as a professor of Urdu at Allahabad University. His literary criticism was influenced by Marxist thought and he was associated with the Progressive Writers' Movement. In 1954, he was invited by a U.S. organization to study intellectual trends, resulting in a published work after returning from his travels. He passed away on December 1, 1972.
