He graduated from Kyoto University in Japan, where he specialized in the Kyoto School of philosophy under the guidance of scholar Nishida Kitarō. After World War II, Cheng focused on experimental psychology, becoming a key figure in the Department of Psychology at National Taiwan University, where he contributed significantly to the establishment of experimental psychology in Taiwan. He passed away on February 22, 1996.
