Dumitru Șomlea was a Romanian war veteran, born on February 13, 1914, in Frata, Cluj County, and passed away on September 16, 2017, in Miheșu de Câmpie, Mureș County. He was the oldest war veteran in Mureș County and the last survivor of the Battle of Oarba de Mureș, the most significant battle fought in Romania during World War II. Drafted in 1939, he served as an aviation infantryman and later as a foot soldier. In 1945, he was released from service, holding the rank of corporal and was promoted to platoon sergeant at the age of 100.
