Mikhail Semyonovich Safonov (January 17, 1938 – February 25, 2005) was a Soviet and Russian chemist, specializing in chemical technology and chemical energy. He served as a professor at the Faculty of Chemistry at Moscow State University and headed the Department of Chemical Technology from 1996 to 2004. He was a member of various scientific councils of the Russian Academy of Sciences and contributed significantly to environmental protection efforts in chemical engineering. Safonov authored three books, two educational guides, and over 200 scientific publications and inventions.
