Ștefan Niculescu (1908-1989) was a Romanian military officer notable for his role in World War II and particularly during the coup on August 23, 1944. As a lieutenant colonel, he participated in the establishment of the Sănătescu government and was involved in drafting royal decrees and disseminating King Michael I's proclamation. On August 24, 1944, he traveled from the Royal Palace in Bucharest to Turkey with British agents to announce Romania's exit from the war.
