Natalia Samoilovna Leites was a Soviet and Russian literary scholar and philologist, born on January 15, 1921, in Zaporizhia, Ukraine. She earned her Doctorate in Philology in 1973 and served as a professor at the Department of Foreign Literature at Perm State University. Leites was a specialist in the poetics of the 19th and 20th-century German novel and was recognized as an innovator in literary analysis. She passed away on April 5, 2011, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
