Əkbər Xanmətov was a prominent Azerbaijani chemist, born on October 25, 1938, in Sudur, Qusar region. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry and served as the leading researcher at the Polymer Catalysis Laboratory of the Oil and Gas Processes Institute of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Xanmətov contributed significantly to the field of polymerization catalysis and left a lasting impact on Azerbaijani scientific research until his passing on December 26, 2020, in Baku.
