Armen Volodya Makarayan (October 10, 1972 – August 8, 1992) was an Armenian freedom fighter who participated in the self-defense battles of Artsvashen in July-August 1992. As part of the Vanadzor motorized rifle regiment, he and 11 other fighters defended their village, allowing the safe evacuation of 4,500 residents from enemy attacks. Tragically, all 12 fighters lost their lives during the operation. After his death, Makarayan was posthumously awarded the 'Combat Cross' of the first degree and is buried at Yerablur.
