He played a key role in trans-Arctic transitions from the Northern Fleet to the Pacific Fleet. Yefanov was honored as a Hero of the Russian Federation on June 15, 1994, for his bravery in fulfilling special assignments. He graduated from the Naval Academy and worked in various capacities until retirement in 1997, living in St. Petersburg until his death.
