O. Bharathan was a prominent communist leader and trade unionist from Kannur, Kerala, born in 1931. He joined the Communist Party in 1954 and aligned with the CPI(M) after the party split in 1964. Serving as the Secretary of CITU from its inception in 1970 until 1998, he held positions in both the Kerala Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha, representing Thrikaripur and Vadakara, respectively. Despite his contributions, he faced significant opposition within his party and withdrew from active politics later in his life.
