He played a significant role in the humanitarian efforts during the Nagorno-Karabakh War, coordinating support activities for Armenian refugees. Ohanyan was involved in foundation activities of various charitable unions and served as the head of construction and restoration projects post-war. He also established a united association for Armenian communities in Poland after the war, focusing on employment and resettlement issues for displaced Armenians.
