Arap Makhayuly Gabbasov (1903-2002) was a prominent Kazakh agricultural scientist, professor, and corresponding member of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences. He was born in East Kazakhstan and was active in pedagogy and scientific research. He held various positions, including director of the Institute of Desert Development. He specialized in plant breeding and genetics, notably developing interspecific and intergeneric hybrids of wheat and maize. He also worked on natural pasture utilization and created a collection of wheat and rye hybrids (triticale).
