Petr Iosifovich Teryaev (1922-1945) was a Soviet guard major and a Hero of the Soviet Union who died in action. Born in the Burkitty collective farm in Karaganda region, he graduated from the Orenburg Military Aviation School in 1943. Enlisted in the Red Army in 1940, he completed 191 combat missions during the liberation of Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, and the Order of Alexander Nevsky. He died heroically while directing his burning aircraft towards enemy forces in Königsberg on February 15, 1945.
