He notably crossed the Vistula River on August 1, 1944, and successfully pushed the enemy from their trenches, maintaining a foothold despite being outnumbered. His bravery allowed other divisions to cross the river. For his actions, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on March 24, 1945. He was killed in battle and is buried in Berlin's Tiergarten Park.
