Growing up in Kvorning, she graduated from Viborg Amtsgymnasium in 1991 and later trained as a journalist at Danmarks Journalisthøjskole, completing her education in 1996. Støttrup has held various positions in journalism, including reporter and editor at TV 2 and Nordisk Film TV. Under her leadership, ALT for damerne has taken a more activist approach to gender equality issues.
