Garegin Oganesovich Karapetyan (April 23, 1931 – February 2, 2017) was a Soviet and Russian chemist, doctor of chemical sciences, and a distinguished professor at SPBPU. He was a leading specialist in optics and glass spectroscopy and the founder of luminescent glass research in the USSR. He was a full member of the Russian Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. He was honored as a Distinguished Scientist of the Russian Federation and was a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR in the field of science.
