Yosyp Kotlyar (1908-1962) was a Jewish Soviet poet, born in Berdychiv. He wrote numerous poems for children and adults, many of which were set to music. His education included studies in a kheder, then a municipal school, followed by a pedagogical technicum and a Jewish division at a teacher training institute in Kharkiv. He began publishing poetry in the late 1920s and produced several collections, including children's poetry that gained popularity in the Jewish community during the 1940s-50s. Kotlyar also established his reputation as a lyric poet.
