His collections, 'Birahi' and 'Sur-Nijara', were published in 1937 and 1939, respectively. His songs gained immense popularity during the 1930s and 1940s, being rendered by celebrated artists like Charu Bordoloi, Anukul Nath, and Bhupen Hazarika. Due to his contributions to rural songs, he was affectionately dubbed 'Bonkowa'.
