Valentin Viktorovich Vorontsov was a notable Soviet and Russian scientist known for his contributions to plant breeding and subtropical horticulture. Born on August 22, 1922, in Batumi, he earned a doctorate in agricultural sciences in 1967 and became a professor in 1981. Vorontsov was honored with the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 1999 for developing new varieties of tea and subtropical crops. He authored over 200 scientific articles and numerous books, and he was also a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, decorated with military orders and medals.
