Princess Fahrelnissa Zeid was a Turkish artist born in Istanbul in 1901. She blended Islamic and Byzantine art with abstract and Western influences. As one of the first women to study at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, she showcased her artwork in approximately 50 exhibitions across Europe and the United States. Her first solo exhibition took place in 1944, the first of its kind for a woman. She married twice, once to novelist İzzet Melih Devrim and later to Prince Zaid bin Hussein, and founded the Fahrelnissa Zeid Institute of Fine Arts in Jordan.
