Prema Purao is a notable Indian social worker and freedom fighter, recognized for her contributions to empowering destitute women and children. She founded the Annapurna Mahila Mandal in 1975, a non-governmental organization aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged individuals. Purao played a significant role in the Goa liberation movement and received the esteemed AIWEFA Stree Ratna Award for her efforts. In 2002, she was honored with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, by the Government of India for her dedication to social work.
