Piyaseeli Wijegunasinghe was a Sri Lankan literary critic and Trotskyist born on February 20, 1943. She was a founding member of the Revolutionary Communist League in 1968, which evolved into the Socialist Equality Party. Wijegunasinghe served as a professor at the University of Colombo and held the position of Dean of the Department of Sinhala Literature from 1997 to 2009. She was married to Wije Dias, the General Secretary of the party, and made significant contributions to literature and politics until her death on September 2, 2010.
