Arcadio "Pipí" Franco was a Dominican singer and composer born on January 12, 1912, in Santiago de los Caballeros. He gained prominence in the 1940s performing with the renowned Orquesta Presidente Trujillo, led by Luis Alberti. Franco toured the USA and the Caribbean with Leopold Stokowski and the All American Youth Orchestra, which helped to make his voice internationally recognized through recordings. He composed several popular pieces in the Dominican Republic, including the merengues 'Adios negrita' and 'Mensaje (Arroyito cristalino)'.
