Pilar de Madariaga Rojo was a Spanish chemist born on April 21, 1903, in Madrid. A pioneering figure in the field of chemistry during Spain's Silver Age in the early 20th century, her academic and research career was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. She exiled to the United States, where she became a Spanish language professor, earned her doctorate in 1949, and led the Department of Hispanic Studies at Vassar College until her passing on April 6, 1995.
