Phyllis Margaret Rountree (1911-1994) was an Australian microbiologist and bacteriologist, specializing in staphylococcal infections. Born in Hamilton, Victoria, she studied at the University of Melbourne and later earned a postgraduate diploma in bacteriology in London. She worked at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she identified an increase in surgical infections and successfully controlled an outbreak of antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus. Though she received few awards due to her reserved nature, she was recognized with an honorary doctorate and the naming of a phage family, Rountreeviridae, in her honor.
