Philippe Gros is a Canadian biochemist and professor, born on October 7, 1956, in Cavaillon, France. He moved to Montreal in 1967 and has been a professor in the Department of Biochemistry at McGill University since 1993. Gros is notable for his discovery of the MDR gene in 1983, which is significant for cancer treatment, as well as the Nramp gene in 1994, linked to natural resistance to infections such as tuberculosis, leprosy, and typhoid. His team also discovered the Pax3 gene, crucial for normal embryonic development.
