Dr. Philippe Encausse (1906 - 1984) was a French physician, writer, Freemason, esotericist, sportsman, and Martinist. He was the son of Papus and was initiated as a Freemason in 1947. Encausse founded two lodges and became the Sovereign Grand Master of the Ordre Martiniste in 1960. He served as the editor of L'Initiation from 1953 to 1984, contributing numerous writings. His first name, Philippe, was given in honor of Master Philippe, his posthumous godfather.
