He played professionally in the early 1980s and represented the University of California, Berkeley in college tennis. Lehnhoff achieved a career-high ATP singles ranking of 182 and participated in the qualifying rounds of the 1983 Wimbledon Championships. Notably, he reached the second round in two tour events: the 1982 Quito Open and the 1984 WCT Tournament of Champions held in Forest Hills.
