Pétur Georg Markan is an Icelandic theologian, politician, and former footballer born on February 16, 1981. He played in the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla for clubs like Fjölnir, Valur, and Víkingur. He served in Alþingi for the Social Democratic Alliance and was mayor of Súðavík from 2014 to 2019. After leaving the Social Democratic Alliance in April 2021, he joined the Liberal Reform Party. In April 2024, he became the mayor of Hveragerði. Markan experienced the loss of his father to cancer at 17 and has four children with his wife.
