Petri Heikki Toiviainen, born on November 8, 1959, in Jyväskylä, is a professor at the University of Jyväskylä. He led the Academy of Finland's Centre of Excellence in Interdisciplinary Music Research from January 1, 2008, to December 31, 2013, and served as an Academy Professor from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2018. During his professorship, he focused on enhancing the understanding of the role of the body and brain in music perception, with applications in music therapy, music education, and music performance. He currently leads a designated Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body, and Brain Research from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2029.
