Sir Peter Jack Matthews was a British police officer who served as Chief Constable of Suffolk Constabulary and Surrey Police. Born on December 25, 1917, in Blackridge, Scotland, he joined the Metropolitan Police in 1937. During World War II, he served as a pilot in the RAF. After the war, he returned to the Metropolitan Police, eventually becoming Chief Inspector. He was involved in significant roles, including leading police efforts during the EOKA crisis and presiding over Operation Countryman, a substantial investigation into police corruption, until his retirement in 1982.
