Peter M. Neumann is an English mathematician born on December 28, 1940, in Oxford. He is the son of mathematicians Bernhard and Hannah Neumann. After graduating from Queen's College, Oxford in 1963, he earned a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Oxford in 1966. He returned to lecture at Queen's College and became an honorary fellow after retiring in 2008. His work focuses on group theory, and he is known for solving Alhazen's problem in 1997. Neumann received various awards including the Lester Ford Prize and was the first president of the British Mathematical Society from 1996 to 2004.
