Peter Jenniskens is a Dutch-American astronomer born in 1962. He works at research institutes for NASA and the SETI project. His research focuses on the physics of meteor showers, the re-entries of spacecraft into the Earth's atmosphere, and impacts of asteroids. He is known for discovering the parent bodies of the Quadrantids (a comet that disintegrated 500 years ago) and the Ursids. In recognition of his contributions, the asteroid (42981) Jenniskens was named after him on November 20, 2002.
